Depression and Panic Attacks
The psychological and medical professions have recently began to recognize a strong interconnection between depression and panic attacks. Although depression is not necessarily included in the symptoms suffered by the person who has heavy anxiety, the relationship between the two has shown itself strongly enough to have researchers begin looking for treatments that address both conditions.
Is it so that depression triggers panic attacks, or do panic attacks cause depression? A number of researchers have the point of view that each one effects the other. One will often experience anxiety when they have to perform in a social situation if they feel depressed. And the manner in which feelings of panic and anxiety impede daily life will have a lot to do with the person’s feelings of depression. So panic attacks, depression and severe anxiety can feed off of each other. The positive part of this is that treating depression can provide benefits in relief from panic attacks.
